FANCEY, Malcolm "Mac" Eugene – 85, February 11, 1926 – March 17, 2011, passed away peacefully in his favorite chair at home with family members in Halifax. Born in New Elm, Lunenburg County, he was a son of the late Carmon and Lina (Hirtle) Fancey. He served in the Merchant Marines in WWII. Mac was married in 1946 to Tena (O’Leary), his wife of 64 years, in Halifax where they started their family. Mac started working at Nova Scotia Pulp Ltd. in Port Hawkesbury when it opened in 1961 and worked there for 29 years until seriously injured in the 1982 mill explosion. Mac loved spending time hunting with family, playing crib, arguing politics, gardening, four wheeling, camping trips and any time with family. He also had many fond memories of his days in Port Malcolm and Queensport.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Tena and his children, Rodger (Patricia) Fancey, Hureauville; Gary (Arlene) Fancey, New Waterford; Blair (Leslie) Fancey, Quispamsis; Marie Mirhashem, Halifax. His pride and joy were his grandchildren, Rick Fancey, Halifax; Randy (Rhonda) Fancey, Hatchet Lake; Rhonda (Kevin) Bishop, Tammy (Darren) MacLellan, Port Hawkesbury; Glenn (Robi) Fancey, Whitby; Adam Fancey, Grande Prairie; Mat Fancey, Halifax; Erica Fancey, Vancouver; Barry MacKichan, Calgary and Stefani MacKichan, Calgary. He dearly loved his precious great grand children, Connor and MacKenzie Fancey, Hatchet Lake; Haley Bishop, Hatchet Lake; Silas Fancey, Stratford, PEI; Keira and Ashley MacLellan, Port Hawkesbury. He is survived by sister, Daisy Frail, Bridgewater. He was predeceased by son, Denis Fancey, sisters, Beatrice Atkinson, Violet Ritcey, Blossom Frail and brother, Victor Fancey.
There will be a "Celebration of Life" reception from 2 – 4 pm, Sunday, March 20, 2011 in the Common Room (6th Floor), 40 Regency Park Drive, Halifax. Funeral mass will be held at 2 pm, Monday, March 21, 2011 in St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Guysborough, with Reverend Jonathon Nweke officiating. Burial will follow in St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church Cemetery, Queensport. Followed by a reception at the Queensport Fire Hall.
