FITZPATRICK, Gerald Anthony – 76, Port Hawkesbury. We are deeply saddened to announce that our beloved "DeDe" passed away on Friday, March 1, 2013, in the QEII Hospital, Halifax, due to complications following surgery. Born on July 4, 1936, in Lord’s Cove NL, Jerry was a son of the late Clem and Monica (Lamb) Fitzpatrick. He was a wonderful man who was pleasant and kind and always had a smile for everyone. Every time he met someone new, he would say "that’s a friend I never knew yesterday". He worked as a fisherman for 33 years and enjoyed telling all of his many fishing stories. He also enjoyed walking, reading his daily newspaper, bingo and of course watching hockey, especially the Detroit Red Wings. He is survived by his daughters, Jeannie (Sean) O’Leary, Fletcher’s Lake; Lola Cogswell, AB; sons, Jimmy, AB; Frankie, BC; sister, Elizabeth (Don) Antle, Mulgrave; common-in-law spouse, Mary LeBlanc and her family, Vera and Rachael of Port Hawkesbury; 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Cathy "Cass"; brothers, Melvin, Eric and Pete. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, in the Mulgrave and Area Resting Place, Mulgrave. Funeral mass will be 2 p.m. Wednesday from St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, Mulgrave, with Father Allan MacPhie officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Mulgrave and Area Resting Place or to a charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury.
