FERGUSON, Donald John "D.J." – It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Donald John "D.J." Ferguson, age 87, of Skye Glen, Inverness Co. D.J. passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2014, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
Born in Kewstoke, Inverness Co., he was a son of the late George and Murdena (MacDonald) Ferguson. He was a member of the Stewart United Church, Whycocomagh. D.J. was a retired Stationary Engineer from the Royal Bank Plaza, Ottawa. He was known for his great sense of humor and devilish smile and his great landscaping. He will be remembered for his kindness and devotion to his family, friends and neighbours.
D.J. is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 61 years, Phyllis (MacInnis); beloved son, Kenneth (Melody), East Skye Glen; his pride and joys grandchildren, Lacey (Derek) MacInnis, Whycocomagh; Alanna (Kegan), East Skye Glen; and his little sweetheart, Madison MacInnis and Brandon MacInnis.
He is also survived by sister, Rebecca (Johnny) Carew, Dartmouth; sisters-in-law, Florrie Ferguson, Richmond Villa; Dolena MacKinnon, Jessie MacKinnon, both of Ainslie Glen; Edna MacLennan, Little Narrows; Shirley Morrison, Aberdeen; Wilena (Peter) Parker, Brook Village; Janet (Angus) Scott, East Skye Glen; Laura MacInnis, Halifax; brother-in-law, Jackie (Marie) MacInnis, East Skye Glen; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by sisters, Catherine (John N) MacLellan, Sarah (Donald John) Morrison, Annabelle (Carl) Betts, Florence (Peter L) MacDonald, Martha (Kenneth) MacKinnon, Margaret (Duncan) MacKinnon; brothers, Malcolm (Mabel), Dan Hughie (Greta), Peter Alex and Alex in infancy; sisters-in-law, Margaret (Neil) Campbell, Mae (Neil) MacKay, Laura; brothers-in-law, Murdock MacInnis, Morrison MacInnis, Stewart MacInnis, Gordon MacLennan and Lauchie MacKinnon.
D.J. will also be sadly missed by Marilyn and Wayne Johnson, Murna and Conrad Baker, Janice and Brian Drysdale, Sandra and Kevin Gillis, Murdo and Wilma Ferguson, George and Mary Beth Ferguson, Carolyn Detato, George and Diane MacKinnon, George and Sue Carew, Malane Carew, Sandy and Jenny MacDonald, Bobby and Liza MacInnis, Caillin MacInnis, Joey MacNeil, Jeffery MacInnis, Myles and Nellie Gillis, Catherine and Allan Gillis. Thank you for all your help, visits, phone calls and baking and snowplowing over the years. He thought the world of you all.
