FANNING, Mary Odessa "Mamie" -94, Little Dover, Guysborough Co., passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2014, in the Seaside Manor, Canso, 50 years to the day after her son Eric was lost at sea on the Acadia Seahawk.
Born in Little Dover, she was a daughter of the late William and Mary (Mason) Horne. Mamie first staring working as a janitor at the Dover School and then went to work at the fish plant. She was then manager of the Scotia Drive In in Canso. She then worked at the Guysco Bakery in Canso. She was a member of St. Agnes Parish, Little Dover. Mamie loved to play bingo and cards.
Surviving are her children, Albert, Little Dover; Jean (Bobby) Rossong, Yellow Marsh; Gerald, Red Deer, AB; Richard (Judy), Bill (Debbie), Nick (Tammy), all of Little Dover; sister, Annie Casey, Seaside Manor, Canso; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry; sons, Eric and Bobby; brothers, Andrew, Samuel and James.
Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Thursday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Friday from St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Little Dover, with Father Dan MacDonald officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Family flowers only please.
