Fougere, John Lawson, age 75 years, Sampsonville, Richmond Co. John, loving husband, father and son, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at the VG site QE ll, Halifax surrounded by family. He was born on February 1, 1940 to Ethel (Digout) Fougere and the late James Fougere. John built his livelihood as an oil burner mechanic, electrician, plumber and entrepreneur. He was a community leader who worked with his peers to develop St. Peter's into the community it is today. John "Papa" was happiest in his boat out on the lake catching cod, playing cards, and spending time with his grandchildren and his Shih Tzu, Lily. The most valuable lessons John taught were not with his words, but through his actions. He taught compassion and integrity by how he helped those in need. He conveyed immeasurable courage, strength and endurance throughout his health battles. He lived his life committed to providing the very best for his wife and daughters. John is survived by his wife, Rita (LeBlanc), mother, Ethel, daughters, Dawn (Jim) Marshall; Tracey (Emmett MacGrath); Stacey (Danny MacNevin); Heather (Jason) Rorison; granddaughter, "Papa's girl" Kaleigh; brothers, Dan and Peter; sister, Evelyna (Joe) Wincey; his daughter by heart, Ashley (Lorne Burke); grandchildren, Ashton, Jamie, Jake, Olivia, Marshall and Jesse. He is predeceased by his father, James; daughter, Holly Ann; brothers, Alex, Thomas, and sister, Anita. John's family wish to extend sincere thanks to family and friends for their support throughout his difficult illness, very special thanks to Dr. Keir M. Stewart, Cardiac Surgeon, for his care and compassion, QEII Health Sciences Centre, St. Martha's Regional Hospital and Strait Richmond Hospital. Visitation will take place at Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 26 Centennial Street, St. Peter's, on Monday, May 18, 2015 from 2-9 p.m. There will be no church service, at John's request.
