It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear mother, Marie Sophie (Doucet) Horne age 81 on Monday, April 10, 2017 of the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home in Antigonish, N.S. and formally of Little Dover, Guysborough County.
Born in Grand Etang, Cape Breton on September 10th, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Simeon and Marguerite (Boudreau) Doucet. She was born into a big family of 16 brothers and sisters and has many many nieces and nephews. She is survived by her two remaining siblings, Therese, Cheticamp and Normand, USA.
In 1959 she married Ernest Horne and had five children that she loved dearly, Nathan (Diana), Sambro; Kevin (Tammie), Queensport; Timmy, Canso; Mark (Cheryl), Sambro and her only daughter Claudette, Hazel Hill. She has twelve grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. In her early years she worked as a nurse’s aid at Camp Hill Hospital in Halifax and later moved to Little Dover with her husband, Ernie and worked at the bakery in Canso.
Marie loved a good game of cards and bingo but also enjoyed talking to her sister, Therese, in Cheticamp, every evening on the phone. She was an avid knitter and made many a pair of mittens and hats for her grandchildren. She was a member of the St. Agnes Church in Little Dover. She loved spending time and talking with her family and friends and listening to her French music on the radio.
Marie was predeceased by her husband, Ernest and her loving companion "Bud" Lewis Rhynold of Little Dover. Her brothers , Elie Joseph, Louis Theophile, Jean Moise, Vincent, Edmond, Lionel, Rosaire, Etienne and Martin; sisters, Marie Jeanette, Marie Rebecca, Catherine Laurette and Germaine Clotilde.

Visitation will take place in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso on Monday, April 17th from 2 to 9 p.m. Funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 18th in St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church , Little Dover with Father Dan MacDonald officiating. Burial to follow in the Parish Cemetery. Donations can be made to the St. Agnes Building Fund in Little Dover.
