HINES, Burton Ambrose - Age 84, Linwood, Antigonish Co. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father and grandfather, Burton Ambrose Hines. Burton peacefully passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2019, in St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish at the age of 84, with his loving family at his side.
Burton was born in Lantz Siding, Hants County, on August 18, 1935 to the late Earl Vincent and Gladys Pearl (Myers) Hines. Burton is survived by his children, Arlene, Joan and Mark (Melissa); daughter-in-law, Gwyn; his grandchildren, Kisa (Jason), Lars (Amanda), Shawna (MItchell), Jacqueline (Brennan) and Ashley; great-grandchildren, Mac, Lochlen, Nolen, Griffin, Corbin, Beau and William; brother, Gordon; brothers-in-law, Tony, Bill, Jack and Randy; sisters-in-law, Doreen, Bernice and Marquita. Burton was predeceased by his loving wife, Inez "Ivy" and his eldest child and son, Wayne.
Grandpa was a machinist by trade and worked at Stora Forest Industries, where he was well known for keeping everyone in line and occasionally instigating a rise out of a fellow co-worker or two with a trick or two that generally came back to play on him as well. In younger life, Grandpa's pass time was relaxing at the cottage in Big Harbour with Grandma and all the kids. They always looked forward to those Summers with their grandkids, Kisa and Lars came home from out west. In the winter, Grandpa could often be found ice fishing with Roddy and often his daughter, Arlene. When Grandpa ( with Grandma by his side ) wasn't out chauffeuring his granddaughters, Shawna and Jacqueline, to school, work, the horse barn, hockey games and dances, he and Grandma were likely playing cards at a cardplay or at home playing a game of bridge, where he'd be getting upset because Grandma was always winning. Throughout the years, Burton enjoyed many drives in the truck with his son, Mark to NFLD and acroos the maritimes. Burton and his daughter Joan were the real "fixer-uppers". Joan could always be found at her father's side when the real work had to be done, whether it was tinkering around in the garage, splitting wood, keeping up with the yard work and always making sure there was a fire lit in the stove on those cold winter days. Grandpa was a precise man and strived for perfection in anything he worked on. Grandpa will be remembered for his sarcasm, humour and quick wit, he always had a good comeback!
