George, Viola Margaret (Lyons) - Age 76, Manchester, Guys Co. It is with much sadness that we the family announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. Viola passed away at home with her loving family and "adopted" fur baby, Max by her side on Monday, January 17, 2022. Born in Half Island Cove, she was a daughter of the late Effie Hendsbee.
Viola leaves to mourn her loss her children, Gord (Elisha), Caledonia Mills; Linda (Floyd), Manassette Lake; Eileen (Melvin), Sunnyville; Brenda (Darrell), Manchester; Paula, Antigonish; Everett (Linda), St. Andrew’s; Wayne (Rachael), Halifax; Gordon (Michelle), Antigonish; chosen daughter, Dawn (Charlie), Moncton, NB; sisters, Hattie, Canso; Honey (Eldon) O'Leary, Half Island Cove; brother, Dave, Whitehead; grandchildren, Shannon, Lilly, Tanya, Jennifer, Amy, John, Nicole, Holly, Chelsea, David, Shara, A.J., Morgan, Logan, Gabe, Joey, Justin, Ally, and Elizabeth; great-grandchildren, Shantelle, Angel, Reid, Levi, Addison, Little John, Olivia, Ariella, Landon, Jocelynn, Braydon, Blake, Kohen, Danté, Ryan, Kenadie, Josiah; great- great-grandchildren, Shyodie and Octavia; brothers-in-law, Albert George, Allison George, Billy George, Louis George; sister-in-law, Peggy Dacey; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon; daughter, Hilda; son, Harold; brothers, John Lyons and Thomas Creamer; sister, Christena Parker; sisters-in-law, Victoria Hendsbee and Agatha Poutney; father and mother-in-law, Delbert and Eva George; maternal grandparents, Daniel and Emily Hendsbee.
Mom enjoyed curling, knitting, playing darts, doing jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, and crossword puzzles. Her family was the most important thing in her life. She was the organizer of the annual George family reunion and the life at any party. You never left her house without a hug and a kiss; Mom will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Special thanks to Dr. McCormick, Dr. Rice, nurses and staff of Cathy’s Place at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Dr’s nurses and staff at Guysborough Memorial Hospital. Special gratitude to Palliative Care, Karen and Allison; Continuing Care, Rebecca, Erin, Brooke, Monica and Carmel who all gave Mom such exceptional; care in her home during her illness.
Visitation will be held 2-8 p.m. Thursday, January 20 in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Guysborough. Funeral service 11 a.m. Friday, January21 in Wesley United Church, Guysborough with Rev. Jim McNaughton officiating. Burial to follow in Hadleyville Anglican Cemetery.
Mask and proof of double vaccines and photo ID are mandatory. Proof must be shown at both venues. Visitation and church service is limited to a maximum of 50 people.
