ELMS, Sophie Victoria - 89, Monastery, died Thursday, May 10, 2007, in Guysborough Memorial Hospital. Born in Guysborough Road (Lincolnville), she was a daughter of the late Charles Ashe (son of the late Tommy Boy Ashe, Lincolnville), and the late Jane (Dorrington) Ashe. Sophie was a member of St. Peter's Church, Tracadie. Sophie was known to most people and community as Aunt Sophie, Granny, or Great-Granny. She lived in Montreal for many years and returned home in the late 1960s. She built her home in Monastery and worked with her crafts for many years. She was a Christian lady, she always loved to talk about the Lord, and she was loved and respected by everyone who knew her. She was a modest, loving, honest and caring mother to her sons, Lawrence "Larry" (Beverly), Kenneth (Margie), Thomas (Barb), all of Montreal; Wilfred (Lorraine), Antigonish; Clarence (Joeann), Mulgrave; daughters, Sonja (Alonzo), Lincolnville; Anna Lee (Brian), Manitoba. She was grandmother to 28 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 12 great great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Alexander Reddick; second husband, Frederick Alonzo Elms; sons, Charles, Ambrose, Joseph, and James, and daughters, Esther and Shyann. The family will receive friends at her home, 444 Route 16, Monastery, Sunday and Monday from 2 until 10 p.m. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday in St. Peter's Church, Tracadie, with Father John Barry officiating, assisted by Rev. David Wheeler. Burial will be in St. Monica's Cemetery, Lincolnville. The repast of refreshments in St. Peter's Hall and visitation at Sophie's home will be open to all. Donations in memory may be made to the Guysborough Memorial Hospital or St. Monica's Church, Lincolnville. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Guysborough.
