ELLIS, Raymond Peter- 74, Whycocomagh, passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2015, in the Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck. Born in Little Narrows, Victoria Co., he was a son of the late John William and Mary Flora (Norton) Ellis. Raymond loved playing the fiddle and writing music. He played at many dances. Raymond was a heavy equipment operator early in his life and enjoyed all different types of heavy equipment. He worked in construction for various companies from Cape Breton to Alberta. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, horses and playing cards with his friends at card games all around Inverness County, and his beloved fiddle. Raymond was an incredibly talented fiddle player who played at many dances, concerts and house parties over the years. He learned to play the fiddle at a very early age by ear. He was not able to read music until he was in his 40’s when he taught himself to read and write music with the help of many of his close friends in the industry. His unique ability to learn and play also allowed him to teach and instruct many others how to play the fiddle. His passion for the fiddle also lead him to compose many tunes of his own which he was able to include in his CD recordings and published music book. His music is played today by many Scottish fiddle players and can be heard around the world. Raymond will be sadly missed by his families and many special friends. Surviving are his sons, Brian (Jo-ann), Big Marsh Road; Wendell (Wendy), Stewartdale; their mother, Florence (Matthews) Ellis, Big Marsh Road; sisters, Marlene (Willard) Fraser, Middle River; Millie Fraser, Aberdeen; brothers, Charlie (Sandra), Little Narrows; Gordie (Jean), Aberdeen; grandchildren, Colten, Chase, Matthew, Kai, Haylee, Dawn and Jonah; as well as many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Betty, Nanne, Mary Ann Sarah in infancy; brothers, Charles Raymond in infancy, John Malcolm. There will be no visitation or service by request.
