Elms, Captain Edgar Atheling "At" - Mulgrave, age 90 years. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a great man. Atheling died peacefully on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at home with family and his special nurses by his side. Atheling was born in Bay L’Argent, NL on February 28, 1926 to the late William "Bill" and Edith (West) Elms. Atheling was 11 years old when he would skip school to sail on a schooner with Frank Bond. Atheling served in the Second World War with the Merchant Marine from 1942-1945. Atheling and Alma with their first born Eric moved to Halifax for him to continue his long and distinguished career as a commercial fisherman. In 1956 they moved to Glace Bay where he owned and operated his own fishing vessel, The Edith Jane. In 1961 they relocated to Mulgrave, where he was Captain with Acadia Fisheries. Atheling retired from National Sea Products in 1988 as shore Captain in Canso. Following retirement Atheling worked with East Coast Hydraulics, Mulgrave. Atheling is survived by his sister, Emma White, Lewisporte, NL; sons, Eric (Carola), Bolivia; Wayne, Victoria, BC; Ron (Sue), Mulgrave; Mark (Mary), Sarnia, ON; and special daughter, Jane Wilneff, Mulgrave.
