ELMS, Marion Lahiah "Mamie" – Age 86, Monastery, Antigonish Co., passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, in the Guysborough Memorial Hospital. Born in Upper Big Tracadie she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Lena Mae (Gero) Ashe. Marion was a member of Tracadie United Baptist Church as well as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. She was honoured by Eastern Light Masonic Lodge No. 72 with a widow’s pin. She was also honoured by The Congress of Black Women of Canada, Antigonish/Guysborough Chapter in 1999. She was known for her sense of humour and gentle heart. She welcomed all into her home and was loved by all. She enjoyed cooking, baking and gardening. She was famous for her maple bud cookies. Surviving are her daughter, Marilyn Medley, Eastern Passage; sons, Arley, Dartmouth; Randy, at home; grandchildren, Sterling Medley, Halifax; Jason Ashe (Beth), Brantford, Ont; Mya Ashe, Brantford, Ont; brother-in-law, Russell (Angela) Elms, Upper Big Tracadie; sisters-in-law, Helen Elms, Halifax; Laura Daye, Halifax; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Norman; son, Thomas Ashe; biological mother, Melinda Daye; brothers, Delmore William "Buddy" Daye; Percy Daye; Bobby. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in Tracadie United Baptist Church and from where the funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday with Rev. David Wheeler officiating assisted by Deacon Alonzo Reddick. Burial will follow in Sunnyview Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Tracadie United Baptist Church or to the Ladies Auxiliary.
