O'Handley, Gerard – 59, Port Hawkesbury, passed away suddenly on Saturday, December 18, 2010. Gerard was born in Sydney, a son of the late Roderick and Sarah (MacNeil) O'Handley. Gerard was quick witted and always had a joke on hand. He was an avid reader, outdoorsman, outstanding baseball player in his younger years and all around sports enthusiast. He was a foreman with the Cape Breton & Central N.S. Railway.
He leaves to mourn his wife, Rodena (MacLean) O’Handley, sons, Darryl (Tammy), Edmonton, Alberta; Christopher (Cindy), Cole Harbour and Kyle (partner Robin), Edmonton, Alberta; grandsons, William and Mason O’Handley, Edmonton, Alberta; siblings, Ann Marie Donovan, Big Pond; John O’Handley, Halifax; Roy (Cecilia), Prime Brook; Kathleen (John Allan) MacNeil, Sydney and Leonard, Boisdale. He was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Valerie O’Handley and brother-in-law, Joe Donovan. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. -12p.m. Thursday, December 23rd in St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church, Boisdale from where the Funeral mass will be held at 12 p.m., with Father Paul Abbass officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Family flowers only please.
Donations may be made in Gerard’s memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com
