GRADY, Nancy Mildred (Carrigan) – 89, Steep Creek, Guysborough Co. It is with sadness that the family of Nancy Grady, of Steep Creek, and resident of Milford Haven Home for Special Care, Guysborough, announce her passing peacefully on Saturday, October 1, 2011 in the home.
Born in Sand Point, she was a daughter of the late Austin and Fanny (Leet) Carrigan, and the wife of the late James A. Grady. Before marriage she taught in rural schools and then worked at Acadia Fisheries, Scott Reid’s Store and cooked for the Dept. of Lands and Forests. She also kept many boarders and was noted for her GREAT lunch can surprises. In her younger years she was very active in the surrounding communities as a member of Ladies Auxiliary, Seven Communities Fire Hall, lifetime member of St. Lawrence CWL Ladies Auxiliary and Royal Canadian Legion, Cambrai Branch # 37 and collected for various charities. Nancy was a member of St. Lawrence Parish, Mulgrave and served on Parish Council, was Eucharist Minister and Reader.
She is survived by her daughters, Shelia (Ross) Hadler, Hadleyville; Theresa (Jim) Holloran, Pirate Harbour; daughter-in-law, Louessa (Ron Veno) Grady, Truro; 9 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Annie (Lewis) Grady, many nieces and nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by sons, Wayne (2004), Gerard (2005), sisters, Theresa Carrigan and Loretta Fogerty, nephew, Paul Fogerty. The family would like to thank the Drs. And staff of Melford Haven Home for Special Care, for their excellent care.
No visitation at Nancy’s request. Mass of Christian burial will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 5, from St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, Mulgrave, with Father Allan MacPhie officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Reception to follow at the Mulgrave Fire Hall. No flowers by request. Memorial donations may be made to the Mulgrave and Area Resting Place, or to Milford Haven Home for Special Care, Guysborough. Funeral arrangements for Nancy are under the care and direction of the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com
