RICHARDSON, Perry Gerard "Spook" – 52, Canso, passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2012. Born in Halifax, on February 21, 1959 to parents Irene (Cohoon) Alexander and the late Donald (Fuss) Richardson. He graduated from Canso High School and was employed in the fishing industry for many years as a Ships Cook. Spook later graduated from Nova Scotia Community College- Strait Campus with top honours in the Culinary Arts Program, a profession for which he was known for his excellent skills. At the time of his death employed with Ocean Choice International, working out of Newfoundland. In his younger years he was an avid baseball pitcher. In recent years he loved to watch his son Jeffrey play hockey and was so proud of his daughter Hailey who is attending Dalhousie University.He enjoyed having his family, extended family and many friends around for special gatherings and we all enjoyed and will miss his "special fish chowder" and his humorous don’t give a care attitude. He is survived by his beloved and dedicated wife, Rose Marie (MacAskill) Richardson, Canso; daughter, Hailey (Douglas James "DJ" Mosher), Halifax; sons, Jeffrey, at home; Evan (Raquel) Penny, granddaughter, Sarah, all of St. John’s, NL; his mother, Irene Alexander, Elmsdale; sisters, Brenda Garrity, Canso; Donna, Inuvik, NWT/Halifax; brothers, Barry, Donald and Paul, all of Truro; nieces, Gillian (Patrick) Duffy, Lepreau, NB; Katie Burke, Halifax; nephews, Aaron Burke, Halifax; Torre (Vanessa) Richardson, Taylor Richardson, both of Truro; many aunts, uncles and cousins. He is also survived by his in-laws, Allister and Mary MacAskill, Auld’s Cove; sisters-in-law, Emily and best bud Rand Hartley, Cathy MacAskill, brothers-in-law, Donnie MacAskill (Jane) and his children Allison and Leland, Allen (Phyllis) MacAskill and their children, Malcolm and Gillis and a very special grandmother, Emily Cohoon, Auld’s Cove. Visitation will be held in the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso, on Thursday, January 19, from 2-4 and 7-9p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 20, at 11a.m. from Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso with Father Andrew Gillies officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Spook’s memory can be made to the Eastern Memorial Hospital Foundation.
