Obituary
Please share a memory of Bernice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bernice Haywood, 65, of Port Shoreham Guysborough Co. on June 9, 2012 surrounded by her loving family at the V.G. Hospital in Halifax. She was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Olsen) Ehler of St. Francis Harbour, Guysborough. Co. N.S.
Those who were touched by Bernice know the quality of her life exceeded the time she was given to us. She had a radiant warmth and compassion that she focused in her work with seniors and children. Bernice lived for many years in Hamilton Ontario where she was a volunteer at the Grace Villa nursing home, a volunteer at the Good Shepherd Food Bank and an active member of her Parish volunteering for various ministries. For the past nine years Bernice lived in Port Shoreham, where she was active in her parish as lector and extraordinary minister of the Eucharist. She was also a member of the Ladies Aid and the organizer of a social tea for seniors at Milford Haven Home for Special Care. Bernice had a special rapport with children and was the much loved baby sitter for Anna, Milo and Jacob Cook.
She is survived by her beloved husband Raymond of 44 years; sons, Richard (Lindsey) Burlington, ON; Gregory, Toronto, ON; grandson Wyatt, the light of her life. Brothers, Leon, Hamilton, Ontario; Chester (Ada), St. Francis Harbour; James, Guysborough; Orn (Debbie), Lower Sackville; Barry (Barbara), Lower Sackville. Sisters; Rose (Colin) Turvey, St. Francis Harbour; Beverly (Arnold) Grady, St. Francis Harbour. She was loved by her many nieces and nephews.
