Joseph "Bennie" Marchand - 82 It’s with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of our dear father, grandfather, great grandfather and husband which occurred on Friday, Aug. 31st 2012, in the Strait Richmond Hospital. Born in Louisdale he was the son of the late Wilfred J. Marchand and the late Dora Mae Samson. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Diana (Samson) along with his 3 children; Larry (Debbie) Spruce Grove, Alberta; Kim, Halifax; and Janet (David) Louisdale. Grandchildren, Neil (Tara), Trevor (Melanie), Alfred (Courtney), Micayla, Dave, Logan, Julie. Great-grandchildren, Avery, Aidan and Kensi. Bennie owned and operated his family business, J.B. Marchand General Store in Louisdale, for many years. He was also a carpenter with Local 1588 of the Carpenter’s Union up until his retirement. Bennie enjoyed his time at home and took pride in his yard work. He is survived by his sister, Jean Samson, Louisdale and twin sister, Lucille Vautour, Saugus, Mass. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by brothers, Helaire (Joe), Francis, Willie and 2 brothers in infancy. Donations in Bennie’s memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia, or to St. Louis Parish Cemetery. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at the Glen Sampson Room from 7– 9 pm Sunday, Sept. 2 and funeral mass will be in the St. Louis Roman Catholic Church, Louisdsale, on Monday, Sept. 3 at 11 am. with Father Angus MacDougall officiating.
