MacDONALD, Mary Ann – 99, Port Hawkesbury, passed away on Tuesday, February 19, 2013, in the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home. Born in Port Hood, Inverness Co., she was a daughter of the late Angus and Catherine (Cameron) MacDougall. Mary was a retired school teacher having taught many years in Port Hawkesbury and in her final years taught special needs children. Mary enjoyed cooking and no one ever left her home without a cup of tea and lunch. She was a member of St. Joseph Parish, Port Hawkesbury. Surviving are her daughters, Ellen Anne MacEachern, Pictou; Catherine Theresa (Don) MacDougall, Ottawa; Mabel Louise, Port Hawkesbury; sons, John (Sheila), Port Hawkesbury; Angus, Antigonish; Fr. Dan, Canso; granddaughter, Madeline MacDonald, Port Hawkesbury; great-grandson, Joey MacDonald, Halifax; sisters, Kaye MacDougall, Halifax; Jessie Marchand, Halifax; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Dougal J.; infant daughter, Mary Monica; sisters, Maggie May, Cassie, Margaret and Marie; brother, John. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9pm Friday, with vigil service at 2pm both in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be 11am Saturday from St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury, with her son Father Dan MacDonald and Father Andrew Gillies officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to St. Joseph Cemetery Fund.
