MacDONALD, John Peter "Johnny Joe" – 92, River Denys, Inverness Co., passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2013, in the Parkstone Enhanced Care, Halifax. Born in Beaver Crossing, AB, on May 27, 1920, he was a son of the late Joseph and Mary Isabel (Chisholm) MacDonald.
John lived his life doing what he loved, farming beef cattle on the family farm. He was a fluent speaker of the Gaelic language, his mother tongue. John was a lifetime member of St. Mary of the Angels parish in Glendale. John was predeceased by his wife, Flora (MacEachen); brother, Colin. He is survived by his son, Gerard (Heike Langley), River Denys; daughter, Anne Marie (Ross Drake), Dartmouth; sister, Dorothy Pottie, Port Hawkesbury; grandchildren, Michael (Emily Murray), Stephen and Ryan Drake; John and Matthew MacDonald.
The family would like to thank Connie and the staff from Parkstone Enhanced Care for their care of John and also his caregiver and dear family friend, Pauline Hitz for all of her support.
Visitation will be from 2-5p.m. on Sunday, March 3, in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be 11a.m. Monday, March 4, from St. Margaret’s Roman Catholic Church, West Bay Road, with Father Barrett Clare-Johnson officiating. Donations made in memory of John may be made to the Father John Angus Rankin Cultural Centre, Glendale, or to a charity of one’s choice.
