Lafford, Edith A. - 97, of Grand Greve, Richmond County was born January 22, 1916 and passed away Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston.
She was the last surviving member of her family. Edith was born in St. Peter’s (Northside) and a daughter of the late John D. and Alma (Van Buskirk) MacKenzie. Edith was a wonderful Mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend who was very devoted to her family. She will be remembered for her hard work while giving of herself and putting others needs before her own. She had a very positive attitude and keen mind took life as it was and made the best of it. She enjoyed making quilts and knitting for family and friends, was very quick witted and shared much laughter with her family and friends.
She has left a large family to mourn her loss; her twelve children; sons Justin, George, John, Nicholas, Lloyd, Byron (Darlene); daughters Frances, Beverly (Danny) , Christy (Terry), Winnifred (David) , Brenda (Gerry), Norma (Val); grandchildren, Danny, David, Randy, Jason, Frankie, Gregory, Tom, Johnny, Hans, Evan, Ryan, Roselene, Natalie, Samantha, Joanne, Alana, Tanya, Jenny, Jennifer; eighteen great grandchildren; many special nieces and nephews and special friends Monica, Joe and Joey. Edith was predeceased by her husband, Frank, sisters, Della White, Frances White and Lois Fougere, brothers, William, Justin and AC; grandson, Charles; sons-in-law, Arthur and Joe; daughter-in-law, Nancy.
Our heartfelt appreciation goes out to Dr. Yvonne Nault and the Homecare staff whose expert care helped to keep our Mom in our home. Thank you to the staff at the Strait Richmond Hospital. The whole team of health care providers who cared for our Mom with love and compassion and is greatly appreciated by our family.
There will be no visitation. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, May 7, at 11 a.m. in St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, with Father Dennis Lamey officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery. Family flowers only please. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 26 Centennial St., St. Peter’s.
