Passed away at the Fundy Nursing Home, Blacks Harbour, NB on Saturday, July 27, 2013, Mrs. Jean Catherine (Nowe) Richard, age 83; wife of the late James D. Richard formerly of Canso. Born in Canso, on September 15, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Jane (Hanlon) Nowe. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother she is survived by daughter, Helen Richard (Raymond Pitre), Pennfield, NB; son, James (Cindy) Richard, Beaver Harbour, NB; grandchildren, Kevin, Allen, Tina, Tara, Johnny (Marguerite) and Marci (Nick), 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was predeceased by her twin children, Carl Hanlon and Helen Hanlon and by a daughter, Sue Arsenault. Prior to her retirement, Jean worked as a cashier at various locations. She was an avid animal lover who took in many strays over the years and feed every living creature she possibly could. She was an amazing mother and grandmother who put her children first and spoiled her grandchildren rotten. She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and kindness. Resting in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso with visiting on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso on Tuesday at 11:00 am with Father Daniel MacDonald officiating followed by the interment at the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to your local branch of the SPCA would be greatly appreciated by the family.
