On Sunday, December 15th, 2013, heaven welcomed a new angel that blessed this earth for 76 years. Bernice Rose Richard of Hureauville, Richmond Co., died peacefully in the Strait Richmond Hospital, with family by her side. Bernice was born in Kempt Road, on January 24th, 1937, a daughter of the late Philip (Murdoch) and Sadie MacRae. She worked for many years in hospitality, at Pizza Delight and the Skye Motel. Bernice enjoyed playing BINGO, sewing, gardening, and knitting and will be missed for her homemade bread and meat pies. For over 15 years, she was a Brownie Leader and touched the hearts of many young girls, now women, from Cleveland to Lower River, Evanston and Whiteside. Bernice’s first love was her family. She is survived by her husband, James; daughter Beth (Chris) Easson; sons Jim (Germaine) and Stephen (Patricia Ann). Bernice’s pride and joy her grandchildren; Pamela (Ryan) Collins, Bailey and Cain Easson and Mikayla Richard. She is also survived by sisters, Sadie Smith, Emmeline (Albert) Jeffery; Murdena (Bobby) Skinner; sister-in-laws; brother-in-laws and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents; brothers, Hughie, Andrew and George MacRae. Special thank-you to Dr. Collins, Dr. Molinari and all of the staff at the Strait Richmond Hospital for providing such wonderful care during such a difficult time. Cremation has taken place, and a funeral service will be held on Saturday December 21, at 2 p.m. from St Francis de Sales Parish, Lower River, with Father Barrett Clare-Johnson officiating. Immediately following will be a time for remembrance at the Lower River Community Hall, which Bernice organized and wanted family and friends to attend. Family burial will be at a later date. Family Flowers only please. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Craig’s Cause Pancreatic Cancer Society, 6175 Almon Street, PO Box 8561, Halifax, NS, B3K 5M3 or to The Strait Richmond Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury.
