Grady, Annie Catherine - 87, Antigonish / St. Francis Harbour, Guys. Co. With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Annie Catherine Grady on Monday, April 14, 2014, at her most recent residence in Antigonish at the age of 87.
Born in Manassette Lake on December 13, 1926, she was a daughter of the late William and Annie (Mattie) Diggins. Annie Catherine is survived by her daughters, Annie (Jim) Peters, Pleasant Valley; Florence (Jim) Brown, Enfield; Pat (Gary) Colter, Darlene (David) Langille all of Cole Harbour; sons, Lewis (Oonagh), Kentville; Dan (Gloria), Port Hawkesbury; Walter, St. Francis Harbour; Alex (Donna), Cole Harbour; Ron (Wanda), Mira Gut; grandchildren, Jim, Aaron, Travis, Amanda, Shane, Emily, Matthew, Ryan, Zachary, Elizabeth, Nathan, Travis, Trevor and Tara; great-grandchildren, Vera, Evelyn, Noah, Oliver, Elly, Wyatt, Cameron, Curtis, Collin and Isabella. As the last surviving member of her family, she was predeceased by her husband, Lewis; parents, William and Annie Diggins; brothers, Alex and Thomas; sisters, Lillian and Helena.
A devote Christian, she was a member of St. Francis Parish. Always the centre of the family on moral and spiritual occasions, events and everyday affairs, she offered strong sage advice to all who would listen. She enjoyed the family picnics, preparing awesome meals, music of all kinds, dances and board games, especially cards, gardening, making quilts and crafts of any kind, and spending as much time with her family and friends as possible. She was very proud of her community and extra proud of her family.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Anita Foley, Dr. Hart, and nursing staff on the 3rd floor of the VG, and the VON, Antigonish.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 54 Queen Street, Guysborough. Funeral will take place 11:00 a.m. Thursday, from St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, St. Francis Harbour with Father Allan MacPhie officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall.
As an expression of sympathy in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or St. Francis Cemetery Fund. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com
