Obituary
Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Redmond, Mary Ellen (nee Chisholm): 1923-2015. With deep sorrow, we regret to announce the death of Mary Redmond of Halifax, on Tuesday, February 17, 2015, at the age of 91. Born in Harve Boucher, Mary was the daughter of the late Daniel and Margaret (Chisholm) Chisholm and was predeceased by her husband, Gerald Redmond.
We will remember Mamie as a loving sister and aunt, a woman who made Halifax her home in 1939. As a single woman she acquired a home on Black Street and for years ran a successful boarding house business. She worked in the community, spending many years at CFB Stadacona and also at Northwood until her retirement. She knew Halifax, people on every corner, each bus route and all the clothing stores. She had an enviable memory and the brightest blue eyes that flashed knowingly when they would land on you. She leaves behind many friends at Joe Howe Manor where she resided since her retirement.
Mary is survived by her sister, Mary Agnes Corbett (Ronald) of Halifax, and her sisters-in-law, Paulina Henderson, of Halifax, and Marie Decoste (the late Archie) of Antigonish, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her sister, Theresa and her brothers, Hugh John and Roderick.
Interment will follow on a date to be announced, at St. Joseph Parish Cemetery, Port Hawkesbury under the direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Homes. A very special thank you is extended to the many wonderful, kind and dedicated staff of 9 Lane at the QEII Abbey Lane site of Halifax who together, since July 2014, provided the best of care for Aunt Mamie. She had a wonderful life and will be missed by all those who loved her. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com
