Obituary
Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our brother Joey, suddenly, in his 59th year, at his home, on Wednesday, April 15, 2015. Born June 3 ,1956, in North Sydney to the late Bill and Bette MacDougall, Joey resided at the Breton Ability Center, Sydney River. A gifted and talented artist, Joey's life was his artwork (in many forms). As a young man he painted many varied murals for schools, walls of family and friends, barns, garages, signage and many canvasses. His passion and gift for his artistic ability kept him busy over the years, despite his challenges in life. Joey made many friends during his formative years both in Baddeck and Port Hawkesbury. He was a long time member of the former Port Hawkesbury Youth Band where he displayed his love of music. His peers in the band nicknamed him Joey-Cymbals. Joey had an incredible memory for details and kept us entertained with his many stories. As a resident of the Breton Ability Center, he worked in the woodworking shop creating crafts, furniture, refurbishing wheelchairs and thoroughly enjoying other tasks. He loved the art room where he was provided with all the art supplies he could ever want or need. A very thoughtful, as well as, talented individual, Joey always had sample gifts of his arts and crafts for those who showed an interest in his work. Many thanks to the staff of the Breton Ability Center for extending much love and care to Joey. Special thanks to Shawna and John for their guidance and friendship in the workshop, and to his fellow residents for their kindness, support and friendship. Joey was predeceased by his parents, William J. (Bill) and Elizabeth T.(Bette)(Mancini) MacDougall. He is survived by brothers and sisters, Marty(Donna),Cathy MacDougall- Conrad, Fonda(Parker)Stone, and Colin(Kathy), as well as, nieces/nephews Hannah, Brooke ,Kelly, Vicki, Crystal, Courtney, Devon, Stacey, Stephanie, Steven, Kaitlin and Piper and ten grandnieces/nephews.
