MacDonald, Brenda Lee - age 48, of Whycocomagh, Inv. Co. It is with great sadness that the family of Brenda Lee MacDonald announce her passing on Sunday, June 14, 2015 in Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck with her mother by her side. Born in Inverness on February 22, 1967, she was a daughter of Christene (MacKinnon) MacDonald and the late Gordon M. MacDonald. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Whycocomagh and the Whycocomagh Volunteer Fire Dept. While with the Fire Dept. she worked tirelessly fundraising and organizing numerous events in preparation for their new hall. She was an employee with the Dept. of Transportation working up until she became ill in 2005. Brenda had a large circle of friends, drawn to her by her friendly personality, sense of humor and quick wit. She was a kind and loyal friend who always supported the underdog. Known for her love of purple, she was sometimes called the "purple lady". She is survived by her mother, Christene, Whycocomagh; sister, Krista MacDonald, Baddeck; and niece, Jordan whom she loved with all her heart; former husband and good friend, Gary Nicholson (Holly); in-laws, Dougie, (Mora) Nicholson; Myron (Marguerite) Nicholson; Lynda (Auley) MacLean and Debbie Nicholson; uncles, Alex (Mayrene) MacKinnon; Harvey (Laura) MacKinnon; aunts, Florella MacKinnon (John Fraser); Mary C. (Jim) Lyon; Margaret MacPherson; Helena MacKinnon; Florence, Pearl and Carolyn MacDonald. She was predeceased by her father, Gordon M. (1975); grandparents, Duncan and Cassie MacDonald and Neil Sandy and Jessie MacKinnon; uncles, Neil Angus, Johnie, A.D., Rev. Alexander MacDonald and Rev. Fred MacKinnon; aunts, Kaye Hussey and Maye Lamonthe. Special thanks to Dr. Chow, Dr. Ritter, Mary MacLeod, nurses and support staff of VCMH, Baddeck. Visitation will take place in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh on Friday June 19, from 2-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place on Saturday, June 20 at 11a.m. in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church with Rev. Andrew MacDonald and Rev. Brian MacLeod officiating. Cremation to follow, a private committal service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in memory of Brenda may be made to the Whycocomagh Volunteer Fire Dept; the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of one’s choice.
