DORT, Jessie Catherine— 95, Peas Brook, Guysborough Co., passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2010 in Milford Haven Home for Special Care, Guysborough. Jessie was born May 9, 1914, in Peas Brook, Guysborough Co.; she was a daughter of the late Levi and Harriet Dort. At the age of 15 Jessie left home to work in various parts of Antigonish and Guysborough County. She returned to Dort's Cove then to Peas Brook to raise her three sons, James, Harvey, and Edgar. She loved nature and wildlife and spent the majority of her time outside picking berries, puttering in the woodpile and displaying her crisp white linen on the clothes line. A delightful Sunday meant a cone of ice cream and a drive through the Guysborough Intervale looking to spot a deer. She also had a reputation for her luck and accomplishments at trout fishing. She was a quiet humble lady who enjoyed the company of good friends and made sure that no one left her home without a hot cup of tea and a homemade treat. Special thank you to doctors and staff of Guysborough Memorial Hospital and especially the care and compassion provided to us by staff at Milford Haven Home for Special Care, you made our last days with Jessie very comfortable. Thanks for all your kindness. She is survived by son, Edgar (Leona) Dort; brother, George (Theresa) Dort; daughters-in-law ,Grace Dort and Wilma Dort; grandchildren, James Dort, Pauline (Joe) Meagher, Linda Dort, Czerney (Tanya) Dort, Wayne Dort, Robert (Monica) Dort, Ethan Dort; great-grandchildren, Adam, Tiffany, Tyrone, Alicia, Candace, Tyler, Tara, Katie, Travis, Trevor, Brooklyn, Tesla, Darrel, and Oakley great-great-grandchildren, Jamie, Jasmine and Miley. She was predeceased by sons, James Dort and Harvey Dort; siblings, Clara Spanks, Clissey Nicholson, Charity Spears, Jennie Muise and Harvey Dort. We were blessed to have her as our mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She will be forever missed. We love you. There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Friday, March 26, in St. James Anglican Church, Halfway Cove, Rev. Darroch Fagan officiating. Burial in St. James Anglican Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations in Jessie's memory may be made to Milford Haven Home for Special Care or St. James Anglican Church, Halfway Cove.
