DIGDON, H. Ruth, - 91, Mulgrave, died peacefully in the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston, on Tuesday, December 18, 2012, surrounded by her loving family at the age of 91 years. Born in Manchester, Guysborough Co., she was a daughter of the late Gordon and Louise (Lulu Simpson) Scranton.
Ruth came to Mulgrave in 1939 and became active in church work. She met and married Roy W. Digdon in 1946 and settled in Mulgrave. She was active in I.O.D.E. and was Past Regent, Charter member of the Faith Chapter #54, OES. Past Matron, held appointed offices in Grand Chapter of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, was a member of Athena #149 Daughter of the Nile, Halifax, was Queen of Athena in 1984, also held appointed offices in the Supreme Temple. Ruth has been an active member of the Trinity United Church in Mulgrave for over seven decades. She was a teacher and superintendent of Sunday School, elder, steward, treasurer and President of the U.C.W. Ruth was a volunteer for many organizations in Mulgrave and was presented with a certificate for her work with the Heart and Stroke Foundation by the Lieutenant Governor in Bridgewater.
She was a wonderful Mama, Nana and Great-Nana and loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly. She was always there when needed. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Roy; daughter, Carol Anne; sister, Elaine Scranton. She is survived by daughters, Lorraine Digdon, Halifax; Gloria (Rodger) French, Kentville; Nancy (David) Tibbo, Mulgrave; Barbara Digdon, Pictou; Sharon (Paul Young) Digdon, Halifax; grandchildren, Ardyth (Eric) Geldart, Shelley (Shawn) Moralli, Tanya Tibbo, Antonia Bouchie, Troy Bouchie, Cathryn (Devin) Coulter, Chandra Bouchie, Matthew Tibbo; great-grandchildren, Heather, Jonathan, Tonja, Tanner, Skylar, Camron, Shealee, Ava Rose, Isabella, Lucas and Oliver.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday in the Mulgrave and Area Resting Place. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday from St. Lawrence Church Mulgrave, with Rev. Jim Chisholm officiating. A OES Service will take place during the funeral service. Burial in Trinity United Church Cemetery at a later date. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations may be made to Trinity United Church, Mulgrave, the IWK, Shriner’s Travel Fund, or to a charity of one’s choice.
