DORT, Alma Eva – Age 76, Canso, Guysborough Co., passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, in the Guysborough Memorial Hospital with family by her side. Born in Canso, she was a daughter of the late Edward Sr. and Violet (Snow) Dort.
She was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 46, Canso. She worked for H.B. Nickerson and National Sea in Canso for many years. She loved going to bingo and playing trouble.
She is survived by her children, Caroline Knickle, New Germany; Marina George, Halifax; Harry (Rita) Dort Jr., Eastern Passage; Charity (Eric) Collings, Hazel Hill; Jerome (Angela), Montague, PEI; Gloria (Darryl) David, Half Island Cove; brothers, Eddie (Bertha) Dort, Canso; Clarence (Lila) Dort, Hopewell; sister, Hattie (Huck) Feltmate, Truro; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Sr. "Bow Bender"; sister, Viola Greencorn; brother, Johnny Dort; granddaughter, Lisa (Weeks) Johnson.
Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Friday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday from St. Paul’s United Church, Canso with Rev. Heather Manuel officiating. Burial in Fourth Hill Cemetery, Canso.
