Dowling, Raymond Reginald Cameron – Age 84 years. We regret to announce the passing of Raymond Reginald Cameron Dowling of Askilton, Inverness Co. which occurred on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born in Halifax on September 17, 1935. He was a devoted loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a retired carpenter, farmer, and was skilled at many trades. He was a member of Local 1588, United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America and a past board member. He was a past member of Princeville United Church and West Bay United Church elder and he served on Presbytery. He is the last surviving member of his immediate family. Raymond grew up on the family farm on Dowling Road never missing a day outside keeping busy with his tractors and tools. He loved to play darts, wood working and a good game of crib, along with one of his favourite pastimes reading. He was devoted to his family and was never far from a story including all the details. A huge thank you to Dr. Khalid and the nurses in the stroke unit at St. Martha's. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Georgina (Hatcher); sons, Raymond (Mary), Port Hawkesbury; John (Christine), Askilton; daughters, Brenda (Don), Truro; Linda (Marcel), Alberta; Barbara and Joanne, both of Halifax; six grandsons; 10 granddaughters; and several great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, James and granddaughter, Maeve; son-in-law Glenn; brothers, Hawley Cameron, Hughie; sister Frances; his parents, Jack and Margaret (MacDonald) Dowling; his biological parents, John Cameron and Sarah Hagan; in-laws, Alex and Elsie Hatcher. Due to the impending weather for Wednesday, visitation will now be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, January 10, from Princeville United Church, Princeville with Rev. Heather Manuel officiating. Burial to follow in Princeville Cemetery. A reception will follow in West Bay Road Fire Hall. Memorial donations may be made to St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Foundation.
