PURCELL Sr., Colin Patrick "The History Man" – Port Hawkesbury/Mulgrave, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 23, 2017, in the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home at the age of 82. He was the beloved husband of the late Muriel Purcell (Levangie) of Frankville, who predeceased him in January 2007. He was also predeceased by sisters, Genevieve O’Connoll, Helen DeCoste; brothers, Mel Purcell, Jimmy Purcell, Gerald Purcell (in infancy) and his parents, James and Hattie (LeBlanc) Purcell.
He will be deeply missed by his six children, Jim (Lisa) Purcell; Bernita Purcell; Stephen (Earlene) Purcell; Colin (Leona) Purcell; Sherry Purcell (Jim Peeples); Blaise (Debi) Purcell. Grampie will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Kaitlin (Tristan), Kerri (Diego), Daniel, Eric, Michael, Nelson, Miranda, Jenna (Steven), Sarah (Jacob), Andrew, Ryan and Emily; great-grandchildren, Rhys, Ronan, Anne-Marie and Sage. Colin will forever be in the hearts and memories of his surviving siblings, Eileen Power, Leo Purcell and Jean Morrow, who were always by his side, through his final hours.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to dad’s long time friend, John Clancy for his continued care, support and kindness throughout the years until his resting moment. A special thank you to the nurses and staff of Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home and to Dr. Collins for taking care of our father throughout the years.
The Purcell family will receive relatives and friends at the Mulgrave and Area Resting Place on Monday, November 27 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday from St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, Mulgrave with Father Allan MacPhie officiating. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Mulgrave and Area Resting Place, St. Lawrence Cemetery Fund or St. Lawrence Church. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com
