Scott, Edgar William, Age 81 years of Guysborough. Passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Guysborough Memorial Hospital with his loving wife at his side. Born in Guysborough, on April 17, 1937. He was the son of the late Howard Lemuel Scott and Margaret Winnifred (Ehler) Scott. He formed a loving relationship with his beloved grandfather Scott whose love he carried with him all of his life. He moved with his family to the New Glasgow area in WW2 because his father was called to work at the munitions plant there. Following the end of WW2 his family moved to Halifax where he attended school and developed an interest in Boy Scouts. He graduated from Queen Elizabeth High School where he was on the football team, sang in the Glee Club and graduated from grade 12 with a Governor General’s Medal for highest average in grade 12. He entered Dalhousie University on a renewable scholarship which he maintained throughout his undergraduate years, graduating in 1957 with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree and highest average in the program. He found time to continue his interest in music, singing in St. John’s United Church choir, participating in the Glee Club and enjoying time at the piano, while at university and upon graduation joined the firm H R Doane earning his Chartered Accountant Designation in 1960 with highest marks. In 1961 he developed Tuberculosis and spend one year recovering NS Sanatorium in Kentville. While there he was offered a teaching position in the Dalhousie Commerce department. He went on to get his MBA from Columbia University in New York and Ph. D. studies at the University of Toronto. He had an exceptional teaching career spanning 40 years at Dalhousie University teaching accounting, cost accounting, tax and finance. He served for a time as MBA coordinator and toward the end of his career was proud to have chaired the committee that developed the Bachelor of Management Program at Dalhousie and was there to see the first class graduate before he retired. During his tenure as a Professor he also added RIA and CPA to his list of qualifications and taught in some of these programs. Over the span of his career, he was a mentor to countless students, caring and helpful to all. Years later he could recall all of his students by name. Throughout his working life he continue to find time with music including Gilbert and Sullivan and participation in male quartets with Tom Stewart, Ray Grant, Mac Fyfe, Andy Duinker, Oliver Wenzell, and spending time with the piano at home. Family was everything to him. He loved his sons and his wife and cherished his grandchildren. He had strong connections to his extended family since childhood and loved the "Ehler-Kennedy Reunions." He was a gentle man of highest integrity and kindness and steady as a rock. He was a living example of the Golden Rule. He had a special connection to some cousins who were close to him, especially Thurlow Ehler and Anna (Munroe) Sully. He was able to celebrate his 54th wedding anniversary, with wife Marlene on December 26, 2018 despite grave illness due to metastatic neuroendocrine Carcinoid tumor which claimed his life. He is survived by wife, Marlene (Matthews); beloved sons, Jeffrey (wife, Michelle Gallant) and John (wife, Sarah Duffy) and grandchildren, Maxime, Lucas, Rowan and Piper; sister, Doreen (Ted Doering); god-daughter and special niece, Beth Doering (Wayne LaCasse); nephew, David Doering; special sister-in-law, Beverly Shore; brothers-in-law, Wayne Matthews, Reo Matthews and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins all of whom he loved dearly. Edgar’s illness was a protracted one and he was blessed with wonderful care. Special thanks to Dr. David Bell, Dr. D. Rayson, Dr. Barbara Bell, Dr. Anita Foley, Dr. Ranjini; Palliative Care nurse, Karen; Continuing Care nurses, Erin, Loretta, Vonda and staff of Guysborough Memorial Hospital, Home Care of Guysborough members, Patsy, Mary-Anne, Lisa and special neighbours and friends, Rev. Heather, Cindy, Dan, Ursula, Bobby, and Edith. Visitation will take place on Friday, January 25th from 6-8 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Guysborough with the Celebration of Life taking place on Saturday, January 26th at 11 a.m. in Wesley United Church, Guysborough with Rev. Heather Manuel officiating. A graveside service by will be held on Saturday, May 18 at 11 a.m.in Evergreen Cemetery, Guysborough with a reception to follow at Days Gone By Bakery, Main St., Guysborough from 12-2 p.m. Family flowers only please. Memorial donation in memory of Edgar may be made to Guysborough Food Bank, Guysborough Memorial Hospital, and Mass for Shut-Ins, c/o Diocesan Pastoral Centre, P.O.
