On Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 3:20 a.m. in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish, John "Jack" Mercer, with family by his side, peacefully passed away. Jack was born on March 13, 1944 in Upper Gullies, Newfoundland & Labrador and raised in Corner Brook. He was predeceased by father and mother Jim and Frances (Bray) Mercer, sister, Helen. Jack is survived by brother, Raymond (Sandy) and sisters, Margaret, Alice and Eileen. Jack was a devoted and dependable husband and father to wife, Marilyn; sons, Stephen (Angela & Jordan), Paul (Carol) and Jeff (Ann-Marie). He was much loved and cherished grandfather to Corey, Cole, Stella and Ava, and uncle to numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members, Chris (Angelika and Morgan), Sherry, Shelly (Kim), Natalie, Nancy, Kerri, Glenn, Michael, Corina, Elaine and Charl, Andy and Dawn, Corey and Trina (deceased), Gloria and Ed. Jack was a successful and respected insurance adjuster and business man for more than 5 decades, and a trusted advisor and steadfast companion to countless friends and associates in diverse regions of Canada. Well known throughout his life as an avid outdoorsman, Jack experienced many exciting adventures in regions rugged and remote. He was a champion trap shooter, a revered hunter, a formidable billiard opponent, an inescapable fisherman, a teller of stories, and a lover of laughter. But most of all, Jack deeply enjoyed the simpler things in life – the satisfaction of sharing a good meal with family and friends, the soothing comfort of a cabin in the woods with a warm fire crackling, country classics murmuring on the radio, and Jake, his loyal canine partner by his side. To celebrate his wonderful life, family and friends will be coming together at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 43, Port Hawkesbury on Saturday, February 9 from 3-6 p.m. Donations are being accepted by Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home on behalf of the St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Foundation - ICU or directly online at: http://smrhfoundation.com Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com Visitation Information Visitation Celebration of life - Saturday, February 9, 2019 Visitation Time 3-6 p.m. Visitation Location Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 43, Port Hawkesbury
