CAMERON, Donald Y. - 80, Port Hawkesbury, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2006, in Strait Richmond Hospital. Born January 20, 1926, in River Denys, he was a son of the late Donald Y. and Sophia (Richardson) Cameron. Donald was a graduate of the Provincial Norman College, Truro. He later went into the grocery business opening a store in Lake Ainslie, then moving to Port Hawkesbury, where he opened the Red and White Store. After closing this store in the 60's, he went into the construction business. In 1972, he opened the A&W restaurant in Port Hastings, retiring in 1994. He opened the Harbourview Trading Post where he found his 'passion'. Donald is survived by his loving wife, Julia (MacDonald); sons, Reggie (Mary Ann), Windsor, Ont.; Graham (Deanna), Long Point; Bobby (Sherri), Toronto, Ont.; daughters, Shirley (Rod) Morgan, Sharon (Mark) Burke, Sheila (Gary) Long, all of Port Hawkesbury; Shelley (Paul) Seymour, Moncton, N.B.; sister, Sophia (Robert) Matheson, Dartmouth; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by grandson, Bradley Steven; brothers, John and Allan; sisters, Margaret MacKay and Laura MacPhail.
Visitation will be 4-9 p.m. Wednesday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Mark's United Church, Port Hawkesbury, Rev. Wilfred Pelley officiating. Burial will be in Southbrook Cemetery at a later date.
