Please share a memory of Duane to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
CLEARY, Duane Gregory – 63, Guysborough Intervale, Guysborough Co. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He lost his courageous battle with cancer at home, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, October 28, 2011.
He was a hard working man who moved to Ontario at a young age and worked as a heavy duty mechanic and crane operator for American Hoist. He was married to his lifelong love for 43 years and moved back to Guysborough Intervale in 1984. He was a proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. He was always there to help anyone that needed a hand and loved to laugh and will always be remembered for his sarcasm and quick wit. He was passionate about his family, his Christmas trees, the Leafs, the Blue Jays and his dogs. He was a very special grampie who loved to spoil his grandchildren.
He was a son of Clara (Downey) and the late Gregory Cleary. He is leaving behind his loving family, his beloved wife, Pheobe (Kelly) Cleary, loving daughters, Kelly (Steven) Chisholm, Eastern Passage; Kim (Stephen) Webber, Dartmouth; his only son and best friend, John Cleary, Guysborough Intervale; his special grandchildren, Kelsey and Hillary Chisholm; Corey, Joseph and Emma Webber; brothers and sisters, Auldeen Cleary, Marilyn (Blake) Higgins, both of Ont; Brian Cleary, Winnipeg; Jack Cleary, AB; Leo Cleary, Boylston; Grace (Louis) MacDonald, New Glasgow; Gwen (Larry) Mataseje, Cathy (Dave) Wyatt, both of Ont; Paulette (Charlie) Nussey, Chezzetcook; Sharon (Scott) Hart, Boyston; Jerome (Nicole) Cleary, BC; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Gregory Cleary, father and mother-in-law, Daniel and Molly (MacDonald) Kelly, brothers, Owen and David, infant sister, Eva Clare, as well as his special companion, Maddie his little dog. Special thank-you to Dr. Foley, Karen and Maureen and all the continuing care staff for their kindness and support for making his last days comfortable.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Monday and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Guysborough.
