CARRIGAN, Mildred Dorothy – 63, Sand Point, Guysborough Co. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mildred Dorothy Carrigan, on Thursday, January 5, 2012, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish with her husband Edwin at her side. Mildred was the youngest child of the late Lyle and Myrtle Carrigan. Born April 4, 1948 in Guysborough and lived her life in Sand Point. She was a member of St. James Anglican Church, Melford and was a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary, Seven Communities Volunteer Fire Department, Hadleyville. Mildred was a loving wife, daughter, sister and friend to many, but above all was a devoted mother to Nicholas, of whom she was so proud. Mildred was happiest when she was at home gardening or planning her next decorating adventure. She spent her leisure time with her family and her special buddies Joe and Tessa the cats. Saturday morning coffee with her sister Sharon highlighted both their weeks. When Mildred wasn’t at home, she could be found behind her desk at the library in Mulgrave. She was hired on April 21, 1969 as a clerk typist and over the years moved to the job of Library Assistant in charge of reference, inter-library loans and collections and remained in this position until her death. She was a valued and respected employee and was dedicated to the many patrons she served, many of whom would only speak to "Mildred" when they called. Mildred was a fountain of knowledge and was everyone’s go-to person if they were stumped by a question, as she could always find you an answer. For 42 years of exemplary customer service, having answered more than 80,000 reference questions, Mildred was honoured with a Resolution passed in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly on December 8, 2011. Mildred is survived by her husband, Edwin (Junior) Miles, Sand Point; son, Nicholas Miles, P. Eng, Calgary; step-daughter, Sherry Miles, Mulgrave; she is also survived by her sisters, Doris Lamond, New York; Patricia Joyce Lake, Mulgrave; Ina (George) Stecca, Oakville, Ont; Sharon (Ronald) Behie, Sand Point; brothers, Ronald (Betty), Mississauga, Ont; Earl (Jessie), Sand Point; Harold, Vancouver; brother-in-law, Chester (Bernadine) Miles, Oshawa, Ont; Mildred was also loved by her many nieces and nephews.
