COHOON, Donald Gregory "Don" – Canso, Guysborough Co., passed away peacefully on Monday, October 1, 2012, in Canso Seaside Manor, in his 86th year (his birthday is October 3). Leaving to mourn him are his loving wife Kaye (MacMillan) of Canso; son, Michael (Mick), Winnipeg MB; granddaughter, Shannon Derksen, also of Winnipeg. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and in-laws who were like his own family. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Gregory and Rita (Schrader) Cohoon; brother, Bill of Carleton Siding PEI; sister, Pearl Hicke of Winnipeg. Don was a resident of Canso most of his life, except for a few years in the west and seven years he and Kaye spent in PEI. He ran his own business in Canso at one time and also worked in the offices of H.B. Nickerson and National Sea Products until his retirement. Some of the happiest hours were spent in Kooie Koffre trout fishing and enjoying the company of his "best" buddies. A memorial mass will be celebrated in Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso, on Saturday, October 6 at 11 a.m. with Father Dan MacDonald officiating. Cremation has taken place and interment will follow the service where he will be laid to rest with his parents in Star of the Sea Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Don would have been pleased with donations to Eastern Memorial Hospital or to Canso Seaside Manor, the two places where he spent his final year of life.
