CHISHOLM, Mary Stella Sandra - Port Hawkesbury. It is with great sadness that the family of Marie Stella Sandra Chisholm announce her passing at approximately 4PM, Monday, January 28, 2013 in Strait Richmond Hospital in Evanston.
Sandra is survived by mother, Margaret Samson, sisters, Joan, Barbara, Cynthia, Carmella, and brothers, Ronnie and Adrian. She is also survived by her husband, Archie Chisholm and their four children Brenda (husband Tom), Olivia (husband Brad), Danielle (fiancée John) and Joseph (fiancée Sara) and five grandchildren, Candice, Madison, Aiden, Alexis and Finley. Sandra is preceded by sister, Brenda and father, Joseph Samson.
Sandra was born on September 9th, 1951, to Joseph and Margaret Samson. Sandra grew up in Petit de Grat, and moved to Port Hawkesbury to work at the age of 14. While in Port Hawkesbury she met then married Archie Chisholm on March 3rd, 1973. Together they raised a family and worked all their lives in Port Hawkesbury. Sandra managed KFC for many years and loved working with the public. As part founder, the Fleur-de-Lis Tea Room and Dining Room had always been Sandra’s life-long dream. She enjoyed coming in every lunch hour to talk to her customers whom she considered to be both family and friends. Sandra and husband Archie also loved to go for long drives around beautiful Cape Breton that has been their life-long home.
Sandra’s greatest passion was helping others, and it showed in her many volunteer and fund-raising positions, some of which were with Strait Minor Hockey, with helping needy families at Christmas, and with Inverness Richmond Early Childhood Intervention. First and foremost, Sandra’s greatest treasure was her family whom she always held close and for whom she was so proud of. We will all miss her spirited personality, her endless generosity, her ceaseless faith in God, her unfaltering honesty, and her dedicated ability to bridge distance and keep everyone close with a simple phone call.
Sandra’s wish was for cremation to take place. Funeral mass will be 10am Friday from St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury with Father Andrew Boyd officiating. Burial at a later date. Flowers can be sent directly to St. Joseph’s Parish in Port Hawkesbury. Mass cards will be available at Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home in Port Hawkesbury. Memorial donations can be made to Inverness Richmond Early Childhood Intervention in Port Hawkesbury. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com
