CARTER, Arthur William "Art" – Mulgrave. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Art Carter of Mulgrave, on Tuesday, April 9, 2013. Born in Mulgrave, he was a son of the late Owen and Ida (Gillis) Carter. Art was a longstanding Councillor and Deputy Mayor for the Town of Mulgrave, serving for 26 years. He was a faithful member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Parish and a choir member for over 40 years. Art was an active member of the community including organizing the Jerry Carter Memorial Golf Tournament for 25 years in memory of his brother. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Theresa (Diggins); daughter, Charlene (Chris Sharpe), Milton Ont; son, Rod (Colleen), Calgary AB; brother, Owen (Ann), Pierrefonds, Que; sisters, Mona Carter-Munro, Halifax; Margaret Jean Ross, Halifax; Neila (Lorne) MacDonald, Mulgrave; sister-in-law, Florence Carter, Halifax. Art was a loving grandfather to Lauren (Sharpe), who inherited her grandfather’s gift to sing. He will also be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Neil and Jerry; sister, Mary. Visitation will be held in the Mulgrave and Area Resting Place, Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday from St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, Mulgrave with Father Allan MacPhie officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Lawrence Cemetery Fund or the Mulgrave and Area Resting Place.
