Chisholm, Edith Frances "Eadie"- 88, Guysborough Intervale, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2013 in Saint Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born in Aulds Cove, she was a daughter of Helen Phalen (Strachan). Eadie was a devoted wife and mother of 13 children. After raising her family, she worked for Statistics Canada and was a tireless volunteer with a number of community organizations. She was an active member of the Bayview Seniors, Boylston, and the Guysborough Hospital Auxiliary. Her faith was very important to her, as she was a lector and Eucharistic Minister for St. Patrick’s Parish, Guysborough Intervale, a long-time member of the Ladies Aid Society, and enjoyed annual pilgrimages to Sainte-Anne de Beaupré,Quebec. Family was always a pillar of Eadie’s life. Her 13 children grew into 27 grandchildren and then 30 great-grandchildren. She could proudly recount the accomplishments of each one and greatly enjoyed the good times of frequent family gatherings. Close families are born of strong parents, and her family’s support of each other has always been a reflection of Eadie’s constant love and strength. Eadie greatly enjoyed golf for many decades, even when "that little white ball" didn’t go where it was told. She was the partner you wanted to have in cribbage and enjoyed bingo and crossword puzzles, besides being an avid reader. She will always be remembered by friends and family alike for her willingness to laugh, her welcoming manner, and her wonderful meals. Eadie’s kitchen door was always open to everyone, just like her heart. Eadie is survived by her children, Joe (Kay), Havendale; Dan (Mary), Harbour Centre; Shirley Gallant (Roger), Panmure Island, PEI; Ron (Ann), Lower Sackville; Glenn (Carlie), Williams Point; Wayne (Cindy), Malignant Cove; Allister (Nancy), Singapore; Eileen White (Tom), Country Harbour; Rick (Pam), Antigonish; Helen Halloran (Leo) Porters Lake; Jerry, Antigonish; Terry (Hamidah), Singapore; 27 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred and her son, Bobby. Visitation will be 3 - 9 p.m. Friday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Guysborough.
