CATER, Frank Donald -85. The death of Frank Donald Cater occurred on Thursday, August 8, 2013, at his home in Ainslie Glen, Inverness County. Born in Montreal on September 27, 1927, he was the son of the late Frank and Rachel Cater.
He is survived by his sons, Donald (the late Marie); Robert (Jane) and Michael in Montreal; daughter, Jill, Victoria, BC. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Marie (Fonovich) Cater in 1993.
Don had retired from the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1971, with the rank of Corporal, after 23 years of service. After a family vacation to Cape Breton, he fell in love with Cape Breton and moved to Ainslie Glen in 1972 where he happily remained for the rest of his life. He enjoyed tinkering with anything mechanical, especially engines. He loved to travel and had recently gone to Australia to visit a friend from his days in the military. His main hobby however, was building. At the time of his death, he had partially constructed a new house.
Cremation has taken place with private family burial in the fall. There will be no visitation or memorial service by his request. Arrangements are under the direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com
