Obituary
Please share a memory of Paul to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Cunningham, Paul Gregory, Halifax formerly of Havendale, Guysborough Co. We, the family of Paul Gregory Cunningham, 52, are saddened to announce his passing which occurred peacefully on Tuesday, October, 13, 2015 at the Guysborough Memorial Hospital after a strong and determined battle with cancer.
Paul as a young boy developed a love and great interest in forestry which began around the age of 5 hauling logs by horse from the woods with his Father. Forestry continued to be a passion of his, working in many areas of Nova Scotia as a forester and eventually operating his own forestry business which he took great pride in. He will certainly be remembered for his small stature, yet giant ambition when in his element behind a chain saw, for his meticulously neat work in and around the woods and his ability to outwork most regardless of size.
Paul was born on November 26, 1962 to Bud & Helen (Bowles) Cunningham of Havendale; both of whom passed away in 2008 and meant so much to him. He was a dedicated and loving father to two girls, affectionately known by him as 'Rattie & Manny', both of which he was tremendously proud of, insisted that they understand the importance of hard work and never let a day pass by without talking to them both and never ending a conversation without saying 'I love you'. Ashley residing in Havendale; Amanda (Jacques Pellerin) and their daughter, Lyla Joanne in Half Island Cove. Becoming a Grandfather to 'Lylie', his only grandchild and true light of his life, was truly a rewarding and gratifying experience for Paul. Even during the weakest and most tiring days of his illness, 'Bebe' as she named him, always reserved enough energy to ensure that he was able to pick her up, dress her in her warmest clothes, walk her in her wagon or pull her in her sleigh; and never completed a visit until he was be able to make her laugh uncontrollably at least once.
Paul was very lucky to have four loving siblings; three sisters and one brother whom he always kept in touch with and always appreciated spending time with. Kay (Jimmy Pelrine), Havendale; Anthony (Janet Grant), Manchester; Ann (Robert Hart), Havendale; Frances (Sam Carr), St. Francis Harbour. He is also survived by Anne Marie Tramble (Blair George), Halfway Cove, whom he raised his daughters with and always maintained a friendship and mutual respect for; several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and many friends in Guysborough and Halifax. He was predeceased by parents, Bud & Helen and nephew, Stephen Cunningham.
There will be no visitation by his request. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Friday, October, 16, 2015 in St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church, Guysborough with Father Danny MacLennan officiating. Cremation has taken place. Ashes will be spread, as per his wishes, in the woods in which he worked in as a small boy, in the Milford Haven River where he grew up and finally at his resting place near his parents. Donations can be made to the Guysborough Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Homes, Guysborough.
