CHISHOLM, (Groom) Violet - Grande Greve, Richmond Co,. Age 101, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 5, 2018, in the Strait Richmond Hospital. Born in Halifax on June 7, 1917, to the late Joseph and Laura (Landry) Muise, Violet survived the Halifax Explosion and the family then moved to Grande Greve, Cape Breton, where she grew up, married her first husband Alfred Groom Sr. and raised their family. Al passed away in 1967.She married Melvin Chisholm in 1976 and he relocated from Connecticut, USA. They had many years of travelling and enjoying life before his passing at 94 in 2007. Violet was the last surviving member of her immediate family, she predeceased by her brothers, Gerald (Mary) and George (Alice) Muise and her sisters Mary (Gerald) Middleton and Agnes (Robert) Pond Violet was also predeceased by her sons, William "Billy" and Alfred Groom Jr. and her daughters, Mary (in infancy) and Teresa Stone; daughter-in-law, Lexina Groom. Surviving to mourn her loss is son, Louis Groom and daughter Darlene Lafford; sons- in- law, Byron Lafford and Richard (Dick) Stone; daughters-in-law, Mary Ann Groom and Marilyn (Groom) McNamara all of Grande Greve; 22 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 20 great- great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and extended family in both Canada and USA. Many thanks to continuing care for helping Darlene care for Violet at home and staff of Strait Richmond for their care and compassion in her final days. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, St. Peter’s. No visitation at her request. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. from St Peter's Roman Catholic Church, St Peter’s Fr Antolin Asor officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
