Kempt Road, Cleveland, NS - formally of Canso, Guysborough County. April 9, 1923 – April 12, 2014 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jim on Saturday, April 12, 2014. Jim passed peacefully at home with family by his side. He was the son of the late Hilda (Greencorn) and Wallace Roberts. He was in the Merchant Marines, and a "Gunner" in the Second World War. He was a fisherman for most of his life. Jim was an avid gardener, lover of wildlife and the sea. He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Julia (Swaine), daughters, Linda (Bob) White, Ottawa; Shirley (Elliott) Ehler, Whitehead; Winnie (John) Bent, Canso; Paula (Wallace) Richards, Fox Island; Margie (Neil) Feltmate, Kempt Road; Susan (Gill) Hendsbee, Dartmouth; Julie (James) Bain, Dartmouth; who will remember him as a caring, hardworking and inspirational figure in their lives. He will be sadly missed by his 21 grandchildren and their spouses, who enjoyed hearing his life stories when they visited often and having a glass of whiskey with him when they turned of age. His 34 great- grandchildren who brought laughter and excitement with their smiling faces. His brother, Edward (Nina) Roberts, Canso; who enjoyed a recent visit that meant so very much to Jim and by his sister, Pearl Bond, Canso. Jim was preceded by his daughter, Hilda Bland; son, Percy; Son-in-Law, Bob Bland; grandson, Kirk Bent; brothers, Tom, Harvey, Wallace and Ted; sisters , Hazel, Rose, Margaret, Mary, Ollie and Florence. There will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be held in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 724 Granville Street, Port Hawkesbury on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. This will be a celebration of Jims well lived life.
