Roberts, Edward Allan "Ed" - Age 89 of Canso, Guysborough Co. Passed away on Friday, April 13, 2018 in Eastern Memorial Hospital, Canso. Born on March 28, 1929 to the late Wallace Belmont and Hilda Mae (Greencorn) Roberts, he was a devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Survived by his wife, Nina (O’Hearn); daughter, Patricia "Pat" (Will Rhynold); sons, Gordon "Buzz" (Greta); Joseph "Joe"; Robert "Bob" (Janet); sister, Pearl Bond; 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Besides his parents Ed was predeceased by his brothers, Ted, Tom, Jim, Wallace and Harvey; sisters, Florence, Ollie, Rose, Hazel, Margaret and Mary. A champion fish filleter he worked for various fish processing companies in Canso, Mulgrave, Halifax and Riverport as a cutter and a supervisor. A true Toronto Maple Leafs fan, he also coached and played for various local hockey teams. He was fortunate to play with all his three sons and even with a grandson on occasion. Visitation will take place in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso on Monday, April 16, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso on Tuesday April 17 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Jonathan Nnajiofor officiating. Burial will follow in Star of the Sea Parish Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the physicians and staff at Eastern Memorial Hospital for the wonderful care he received especially for the kindness and compassion shown in his final days.
