BUCKLEY (Simpson), Anna, R.N. - 93, Boylston, Guysborough Co., died Saturday, January 14, 2006, in Guysborough Memorial Hospital with her loving family by her side. Born in Boston, Mass., she was a daughter of the late Buckley and Eliza (Keay) Simpson. Anna graduated with her R.N. degree from the former VG Hospital, Halifax, in 1934 and practiced extensively in the village and county of Guysborough for several years. Anna provided professional and loving care not only within the hospital but was called on all hours of the day and night to nurse those who required her skills in their home, traveling there by foot or horsedrawn vehicle. Lives were saved, pain eased, comfort given and babies born into this world thanks to Anna. Anna married Carm Buckley and over the years raised three wonderful children. The family lived in Kentville and Halifax where Carm excelled as a salesman for Electrolux Canada. He also established a photography business called Tiny Tots Studio. Eventually moving to Antigonish, Anna and Carm founded Buckley's Studio, a high profile business on the Main for several years until Carm's untimely death in 1974. Anna moved back to her old homestead in North Riverside and became involved in her community. She joined the Chedabucto Curling Club enjoyed volunteering and curling well into her 80s. She was a driving force within the Guysborough Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, helping to raise tens of thousands of dollars necessary to assist the hospital foundation ensuring her community continued to have the much needed health centre in their very midst. In recognition of her dedication, Anna was presented with a life membership to the Nova Scotia Association of Health Auxiliaries in October of 2004. Anna was a long serving member of Boylston United Church; was president of the UCW for several years and was a committee member instrumental in acquiring a manse for the pastoral charge. Anna maintained her own home, drove her own car, played cards, dice and was an avid lexicon solver until her recent illness. Anna loved life and people and was proud of her children, grandchildren, stepgrandsons and great-grandchildren. She had a phenomenal memory and enjoyed telling and retelling numerous family incidents, always in good taste and usually producing a good laugh for all to enjoy. She had a great sense of humor, which she maintained and used even during her illness. Anna, Anna B., Annabelle, Anna Nomiddlename, Aunt Anna, Mom, Grannie, Nannie, Big Grannie, Sis, Mrs. and Nurse, you were so many people to so many people who will miss you but never stop loving you, our perfect role model.
