Butts, George David “Dave”- Port Hawkesbury, passed away peacefully at Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston on Monday, January 3, 2011 at the age of 79. Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late William “Bill” and Pearl (Mugford) Butts. He relocated to Port Hawkesbury in 1961 and was employed at NS Pulp and Paper Industries and then Port Hawkesbury Heavy Water Plant (AECL) until retirement. Dave was an active member of St. Mark’s United Church, Causeway Shrine Club and Masonic Lodge (Royal Arch Keystone Chapter and Solomon Lodge # 46). He was a former member of the Strait Area Community Curling Club and the Strait of Canso Yacht Club. Dave enjoyed his garden, fishing mackerel, travelling, spending time at the cottage and watching a good baseball game, especially when the Blue Jays won.
He is survived by his wife, Annabel (Morrison), son, Bill (Susan), Port Hawkesbury; daughter, Donna, Toronto; grandson, Michael, Halifax and in-laws: Myrta Butts, Alice and Alan Chadwick, Bobby and Beulah Pettipas, Edward and Deanna Morrison. He was predeceased by brothers, Bill and Jack, sister-in-law, Helen and granddaughter, Jennifer. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 6 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 6:30 p.m. both in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury.
Memorial Service will be held from St. Mark’s United Church, Port Hawkesbury Friday, January 7 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Bob Lockhart officiating, burial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted to the Shriner’s Children’s Travel Fund, Jennifer Butts Memorial Scholarship (SAERC), or St. Mark’s United Church.
