BAKER, Calvin Howard "Cal", - 81 Canso. It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Cal on Friday, February 13, 2015, in the Canso Seaside Manor. Born in Canso, Cal was proud to be the son of Luella (Cole) and William Baker. He was retired fisherman, a member of the Star of the Sea Parish, former member of the Canso Volunteer Fire Department and Royal Canadian Legion Branch 46 in Canso. Cal is survived by his children, John (Val), Marie, Martha (Fred), Theresa (Darren), Margaret (Johnnie), Joan, Dorothy (Darren), Virginia (Jerome), Anthony (Melissa), Douglas (Beverly) and Helen; 30 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; brothers, Gordon (June), Stanley (Joan), William (Carole), all of Florida; and sister-in-law, Violet, Shearwater. Many nieces and nephews will miss Uncle Cal and know that he loved them unconditionally. Cal enjoyed fishing, singing country music, hockey, curling, duck hunting on French Point and being anywhere on the water. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and looked forward to weekly Sunday gatherings. Cal spent his quiet time praying the rosary. His love and faith will always be present in his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all family members. Cal was predeceased by his ever-loving wife Tootsie (O’Hearn); brothers, Frederick and Joseph; son-in-law, Terry Parker and grandson Paul Parker. Visitation will take place on Tuesday February 17th from 2-9 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, February 18th at 11:00 a.m. from Star of the Sea Church, Canso, with Father Dan MacDonald officiating.
