Bona, J. John, age 67 of Port Hawkesbury. Passed away peacefully on Friday, May 13, 2016 surrounded by loved ones in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. John was born in West Arichat, Richmond Co. on March 2, 1949 he was a son of the late Numan and Evangeline (Doiron) Bona. John was employed by the Pulp Mill in Point Tupper for 35 years. He enjoyed music and camping, he was a member of the Evergreen Club, Port Hawkesbury, and a member of St. Joseph Parish. John loved playing his guitar and singing at many functions around the Strait Area. He was a very loving and caring person to all who knew him. John is survived by his wife, Elsie; sons, John Jr. (Maggie), Ontario; Marcel (Joscelyn), Red Deer, Alberta; Tommy (Natasha), Troy; step-daughters, Laurel (Glen) Groom, Lantz; Amanda (Brett) Bouchie, Calgary, Alberta; grandchildren, Morgan, Kali, Jayden, Alyssa, Nicholas, Ashley, Katie and Julia; brothers, Rene (Donna), West Arichat; Lucien (Joan), Louisdale; sisters, Claire (Leo) West Arichat, Maureen (Jay), Port Royal; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents John was predeceased by his wife, Sharon (Ryan). The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Martell and Nancy Cameron as well as the nurses of Strait Richmond Hospital for their care and dedication in caring for John. Also many thanks to Dr. Maude MacInnis and John’s oncologist Ron MacCormick, and the nurses at St. Martha’s Hospital, Antigonish who cared for John. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation as per John’s request. The funeral mass will be held Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury with Father Gary MacPherson officiating. Burial in St. Joseph Parish Cemetery, Port Hawkesbury. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations in memory John may be made to Strait Richmond Palliative Care.
