BOLGER, Mary Margaret "Marie"- Point Tupper/Port Hastings. It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt in The Richmond Villa, St. Peter’s on Thursday, May 18, 2017, at the age of 84. Born in Point Tupper on October 30, 1932, she was a daughter of the late John Hugh and Cora Agnes (Langley) MacDonald. Upon graduation from Mt. St. Bernard College in Antigonish, she went to work in Halifax in the Lt Governor’s Office. Following that she went to work as a civilian employee for the United States Air Force in Goose Bay, Labrador. It was there that she met her husband of 61 years, Patrick. They returned home to Point Tupper to raise their children and in 1979 the family moved to Port Hastings. During those years, she returned to work for Provincial and Federal Governments until her retirement in 1989. She was a voracious reader, avid bridge player, gardener and researcher of genealogy and local history. She was a founding member of what is now the Point Tupper Heritage Association. She also became an active member of the Port Hastings Historical Society. Through all these years she remained strongly rooted and very much attached to her Point Tupper community. The lives she touched are too many to list. She will be dearly missed by her husband, Paddy, whom she adored; her children, John (Dawna), Port Hawkesbury; George, Port Hastings; Tim, Ottawa; Maureen (Danny) DeMone, Sugar Camp; Cullen, Newtown; Michael, Port Hastings; and very special niece, Patty Garrity, Chicago. She is also survived by her loving brother, Jack. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Conor, Flannery, Amanda, Patrick, Sam, Michael, Liam and Jane. She also leaves to mourn nieces and nephews and the extended family on her husband’s side. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved sisters, Catherine (Doss) McDermott, Colleen Holmes and Abigail in infancy. A huge thank you with much love goes out to the amazing and kind staff of The Richmond Villa, St. Peter’s. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2017 from St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury with Father Conrad Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Point Tupper Heritage Association or to The Port Hastings Historical Society.
